PROTESTS AGAINST MINES IN SOUTH SULAWESI END IN POLICE VIOLENCE

Violence has broke out again at a mining site in Indonesia. Twelve people were beaten by the Palopo Police during an action to refuse a gold mine by Avocet, a company from England and Seven Energy Groups at the Local Parliament (DPRD) office in Palopo, South Sulawesi yesterday. The mining is threatening the Siguntu protected area and the water source of the people in Palopo.

Tribes protest Newmont's Nevada mining
Rocky Mountain News: More than 50 representatives from native tribes gathered at the state capitol this morning to lend their support to the Western Shoshone's fight with Newmont Mining Corp. over the gold producer's mining business in their Nevada communities.
